S05E09 - Cold Blood

Cold Blood was a good turnaround from last week’s Hungry Earth but with a terrible conclusion. The beginning was a bit hard to start, but it came into it’s own eventually and was great to see more of Miss Pond, feisty as hell and a good pickpocket. Now Ambrose, in my opinion, was a more terrible character than she was last week--okay yes, her husband and child were taken and her father had been poisoned, but that was no excuse to let Alaya kill herself on your own weapon, which incidentally was a taser of all things, still cold blood + electricity probably doesn’t equal a good end.

Nashreen was about as good as last week, being rather comical and very good at negotiations, thinking of the human population with the ‘homo reptilia’, and Amy dozing off as she talked was rather comical to watch. Was disappointed by the lack of battles, but upon the revelation of her sister’s death Restac was very good and Neve McIntosh, who played both characters, was amazing! It’s also interesting to note, that although the ‘homo reptilia’ have been referred to as Silurians by the cast and crew, they’re never actually mentioned as so by the Doctor or the species themselves, so again it would be taken into note that these creatures are relative to the Silurians, and even the Sea Devils--similar to the Caucasians, Africans, Asians etc of the human race is my thinking.

I expected a more emotional moment when Tony had to stay behind and Nashreen remained with him, but was repaid horribly by the untimely death of Rory, trying to protect the Doctor from Restac’s attack. Although Moffat, and Chris Chibnall (the writer of the two parter) had to add insult to injury by letting him be taken by the crack AND making Amy forget him! Of course, Rory’s death totally eclipsed the revelation that the TARDIS will explode at some point…

Doctor = 7/10 (was great in places but only reasonable in others).
Amy = 8/10 (still undeniably amazing).
Rory = 10/10 (okay, he didn’t do much, but if this is the last time I get to review him, he get’s full marks!).
Nashreen = 7.5/10 (same as last week).
Restac = 8/10 (gotta love Neve McIntosh and the character, very similar to her sister).
Plot = Better than last week, but not by much.

Overall episode score: 7/10.
