The Hungry Earth felt like a very unexceptional episode of Doctor Who as, to me, it didn’t contain any wow factors like past episodes have. A serious lack of Amy (and even Rory at points) didn’t help for me and the Doctor, although rather good as Matt Smith can make him, seemed to be lacking in something--possibly a sidekick until Nashreen joined him, which was nice.
Now the Silurians, even though we only saw Alaya, seemed rather good; a lovely mix of human and lizard with enough primal instincts to become, if not scary, at least a little creepy--a nice job done there by Neve McIntosh! Some elements, though, didn’t make sense--like who exactly did Ambrose and Elliot think Rory was? The Doctor? A policeman? If they’re from 2020ish then surely the police box TARDIS wouldn’t mean anything to them… Let’s hope Cold Blood is better next week, and by the looks of the Next Time trail it seems to be!
Right then: Doctor = 6/10 (Good, but not great).
Amy = 8/10 (Of what we saw of her she was still feisty and amazing).
Rory = 7/10 (Funny, but lacking).
Nashreen = 7.5/10 (Could have done more!).
Alaya = 8/10 (Really good, but not much of her sadly).
Plot = Mediocre.
Overall score for the episode: 6 outta 10.
